Calculating your Grade Point Average (GPA)

Each grade (A, B, C, D, E) that students receive is assigned quality points. Quality points are assigned as follows:

  • Grade: A, Quality Points: 4
  • Grade: B, Quality Points: 3
  • Grade: C, Quality Points: 2
  • Grade: D, Quality Points: 1
  • Grade: E, Quality Points: 0

To calculate the GPA, divide the total number of quality points earned by the number of classes taken.

Here’s an example of a Report Card:

English

  • Grade: B
  • Quality Points: 3

Math

  • Grade: B
  • Quality Points: 3

Science

  • Grade: C
  • Quality Points: 2

Social Studies

  • Grade: A
  • Quality Points: 4

Phys Ed

  • Grade: B
  • Quality Points: 3

World Language

  • Grade: C
  • Quality Points: 2

Band

  • Grade: A
  • Quality Points: 4

Total Quality Points: 21

Divide the Quality Points (21) by the number of classes taken (7). 21 divided by 7 = 3. In this example above, the student’s GPA is 3.0.
