Each grade (A, B, C, D, E) that students receive is assigned quality points. Quality points are assigned as follows:
- Grade: A, Quality Points: 4
- Grade: B, Quality Points: 3
- Grade: C, Quality Points: 2
- Grade: D, Quality Points: 1
- Grade: E, Quality Points: 0
To calculate the GPA, divide the total number of quality points earned by the number of classes taken.
Here’s an example of a Report Card:
English
- Grade: B
- Quality Points: 3
Math
- Grade: B
- Quality Points: 3
Science
- Grade: C
- Quality Points: 2
Social Studies
- Grade: A
- Quality Points: 4
Phys Ed
- Grade: B
- Quality Points: 3
World Language
- Grade: C
- Quality Points: 2
Band
- Grade: A
- Quality Points: 4
Total Quality Points: 21
Divide the Quality Points (21) by the number of classes taken (7). 21 divided by 7 = 3. In this example above, the student’s GPA is 3.0.
